Kilwin’s Ice Cream – Sarasota, FL: Kilwin’s on. St. Armand’s Circle in Sarasota, FL sells much more than ice cream (see pics below). This review is only on their ice cream.
It feels like 106 degrees out, so what do you crave? Ice cream. I was checking out the swanky St. Armand’s Circle in Sarasota, FL and came across Kilwin’s. There was a Ben & Jerry’s right down the block, but I figured we’d go to a small mom and pop place for quality. (I do love Ben & Jerry’s.)
There are beautiful chocolates and candies lining the store, but they weren’t on the agenda. I’m a huge ice cream and gelato fan, so I tend to have high expectations when walking into an establishment like this.
I guess I should’ve had higher expectations on price, because damn, this place is expensive as hell! Nine dollars for a milkshake? Seven bucks for two scoops of ice cream? I guess the prices have to be so high for rent in that area, but it’s ice cream!
We have several types of ice cream to sample. We tried a cookies and cream milkshake, and cups of superman ice cream, strawberry ice cream, turtle cheesecake ice cream, and pecan praline… All for about $40. Four zero dollars.
REVIEWS: After the initial sticker shock, it was sample time.
The cookies and cream milkshake was ok, but just like any other milkshake you get anywhere. Average at best.

Pecan praline and turtle cheesecake – turtle cheesecake didn’t have a rich cheesecake flavor, and just basically blended into the other partial scoop that they gave me. The pecans and pralines were delicious, but I was really put off how half assed a supposed two scoop cup was.

Strawberry ice cream – This was much more cream than strawberry. Very light strawberry flavor. Come on man. It’s strawberry ice cream.

Superman ice cream – obviously, this is tailored towards the taste buds of kids. They must’ve taken all of their sorbettos and folded them together. This one wasn’t too bad. Their sorbettos are better than their ice cream.

OVERALL RATING: 5.45 out of 10.
I have absolutely no problem paying a high-end price for a high-end product. However, this was far from it. I definitely should’ve gone to Ben & Jerry’s instead.
Kilwin’s is an absolute HARD PASS for ice cream. Their homemade chocolates look to be a different story, but I will not be back.
