KFC Chicken and Glazed Donuts. OH MAN.

You may have heard the buzz going round the foodie circuit… KENTUCKY FRIED CHICKEN IS RELEASING CHICKEN AND DONUTS NATIONWIDE. THIS IS NOT A TEST.

Do you see this glory?! Do you see it? Sure, it’s a grueling gluttonous gastrointestinal challenge, but you know millions of people will be lining up for this, just like Popeye’s Chicken Sandwich. Go ahead and quote me on this one, but I’m a bit skeptical.

It doesn’t look like there’s much too it. Crispy chicken filet slapped between two glazed donuts, priced at $5.99 ($7.99 as a combo). Is this worth $5.99 as a stand-alone sandwich? I won’t know till I try it myself.

KFC is also testing a “basket meal,” (see photo above) with a bone-in chicken or two meaty tenders, plus a single donut for $5.49 (or 2 donuts for $7.49). Not enough donut action? Grab yourself an extra for a dollar.

I can’t help but to think that these donuts look like those you can get at Walmart for $2 a dozen. You’ve probably tasted them. They’re small, not too spongey, lightly glazed, and not terrible for the price. I have a sneaking suspicious that these donuts will taste almost the same as the Walmart specials. I doubt they’re going to sling some high end tasting glazer and use it for a sandwich.

KFC, want to win the sandwich war? Make it a glazed pretzel roll, drizzle a bit of glaze on the chicken, and call it a day. The Train knows.

Will you be going out to try the KFC donut and chicken offerings? Let us know your opinions in the comment after you’ve tried it!
